A stronger collective voice for Indian-origin enterprise across Melbourne.
Little India Traders Association Inc (LITA) connects, supports and represents Indian-origin businesses across the City of Melbourne.
Why LITA exists
LITA exists to give Indian-origin business owners, operators and entrepreneurs across the City a unified, credible voice. We connect businesses, support enterprise, back the activation of a more vibrant Melbourne, and represent members to government and industry, so the contribution of Indian-origin enterprise is recognised and supported.
Our history
Community advocates begin campaigning for a dedicated Indian precinct in Victoria; a precinct proposal is pursued in Wyndham.
The Wyndham precinct proposal is set aside. Community advocacy for a permanent Indian precinct continues.
A $10 million commitment to a Little India precinct in Docklands is made publicly during the October 2024 City of Melbourne election campaign, following years of combined community advocacy, and is subsequently taken forward by the City.
LITA is founded and formally incorporated, giving Melbourne's Indian business community a dedicated, unified advocacy organisation building on this longer history.
In April 2026, LITA makes a submission to the Senate Select Committee on Productivity, and separately makes a submission to the PJCIS. LITA publishes its public priorities for the Little India Precinct in a May 2026 media release. On 2 June 2026, the City of Melbourne's final 2026-27 Budget retains $1.2 million to progress the precinct.
